Snow Dig

Brave the outdoors and hide some “bones” or plastic dinosaurs in some sand/snow for the kids to find. Arm them with a paint brush to remove excess sand/snow.

Giving Back

Toddlers are too small for most community work, but you can still do little things for friends & family, find out if they need anything done that you & your toddler could help out with, getting some groceries or tidying up. Maybe taking old clothes to a thrift store or donating toys to a women’s shelter could be something you collect in the house together.

Sharing

Sharing makes everyone feel nice. Try to find a day to go outdoors and bring along extra toys or mitts to share with another kid so that they can play together. Talk with them about how much fun it was to play and wasn’t it a good thing we shared.

Number Safari

Take the kids on a number safari. Drive around town and ask your child to look for numbers in street signs, store signs and on license plates. Ask them to call out the numbers they find. Help them if they are having problems recognizing them. They should be able to recognize numbers, up to 10, before they enter kindergarten.

How Do We Get There?

Head to the airport where you can watch a plane take off. Take a ride on the bus.
Do you have a train station or tracks in your town? Try to catch a sight of one (early in the am is a good time)
Go for a walk near a lake or body of water are there any boats on the lake? Ocean? Why not?
Is it colder here than it is at home?

Freeze a Bubble!

If the weather outside is below 0 celsius (32 fahrenheit), you can take your bubble activities outdoors.
Blow a bubble and catch it on the wand. Wait and watch as it freezes. It will turn into a crystal ball and then shatter like glass! The children will see the ice crystals form. You can also do this with large bubble wands. Dip the wand into the bubble solution but do not blow a bubble. The crystals will form across the mouth of the wand. Have fun.

Snow Painting

Mix water and food coloring or water colours and put the solution in spray bottles. Spray it on snow outside to make colorful designs. It will keep longer than it did in your tub! Talk to your kids about why that might be?
