Set the Table.

Ask your child how many people are eating dinner today. Ask your child to set the table helping them count out the correct number of forks, spoons, knives, plates, cups, glasses, napkins, etc. and help them set them out.

Paired Foods

With your children, discuss the foods they like to eat. Some foods (apple, hamburger) are usually eaten at one at a time. Other foods (beans, peas, spaghetti) are eaten in bigger quantities. Have the children think of foods that are eaten in ones, twos, threes etc.

Shaping Numbers

Use toast strips to build a number. Count how many strips it takes to build each number. Or you can bake some more and roll it out to form numbers

Counting Crackers

Give you children one of all different kinds of food. (crackers, cheese, pickles, vegetables etc) Then at another snack time TWO of each, three, four, five etc (pieces of fruit work well for larger numbers)

Stegosaurus Snacks

Stegosaurus Sandwiches
Make triangular shaped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Add triangular tortilla chips for his spikes.
A half a banana cut lengthwise for the neck and raisins for eyes.
Stegosaurus Salad
Mix together
twigs: 5-7 stick pretzels
leaves: 3-5 lettuce leaves
grass: handful of sprouts
hot lava: spoonful of dressing.
Eat and keep an eye out for Tyrannosaurs Rex.

Plant or Meat Eaters

Serve celery and smoked sausage for snack. Discuss how some dinosaurs eat only plants and some eat only meat. Ask the children what type of eaters they would be.

Digging for Dinosaurs

Bake (or buy) Muffins with large pieces of nuts in them. Talk about what archeologists do, and read a story about dinosaurs. Give your child a muffin and a fork (with strict instructions NOT to eat!) Tell them they are going to look for dinosaur bones…and they can use their forks as shovels, and set aside all the bones ( nuts) in a pile!!! Together count the bones and then they can finally eat!

Dinosaur Nest

Make edible play dough (using peanut butter, powdered milk and honey). Have children shape the play dough into egg shapes. Give each child a small paper bowl and a handful of chow mien noodles. The chow mien noodles form the nest. The “eggs” are placed in the nest and then add dinosaur shaped gummies to represent dinosaur babies that have already hatched. The students will love this cooking project and they can eat it for snack when they’re done!

Pets are People Too!

Make some , roll and twist it into heart shapes. a bit of soft dog/cat food and make a special cookie just for your pet. Show your child that pets have feelings too and we love them and do nice things for them.

Share a Snack

Talk about different ways you can share with others. How does sharing change your meal? Is it more fun?
Make a little extra snack to share with one of the other children.
Make lunch for your grandma or grandpa & bring it to them to share, or visit them for lunch
